Known for their geometric and abstract designs, Gabbeh rugs are made in Iran from local hand-spun wool and natural dyes. A Gabbeh is a hand-woven pile rug of coarse quality. This type of rug is popular among populations of the Zagro Mountains of Iran. The Gabbeh carpet is much thicher and coarser than other Persian carpets. The word “Gabbeh” comes from the Persian meaning ran, natural, uncut. This is a sturdy and rough primitive carpet.
