This necklace features hand stamped sterling silver and hand carved painted wood of a Hopi Maiden bezel set in sterling silver with 3 Blue Ridge Turquoise cabochons below. This pendant measures 2 1/4 x 2 1/2 with a 1 inch bail and is on a 6 strand Blue Ridge Turquoise necklace measuring at 24 inches.

Bernadette Marquez is a native New Mexican raised in Santa Fe. She shares her life with her husband and award-winning Santero artist, Arthur Lopez and their two sons. She works in Precious Metals with a focus on Sterling Silver Jewelry. She incorporates her husband’s hand painted and/or hand carved images in her work which transform them into wearable art. Bernadette’s work is included in many prominent collections throughout the country and is included in the permanent collection of the Museum of Spanish Colonial Art. She has won many awards at Spanish Market including two collaboration awards with her husband Arthur Lopez. “My work celebrates the culture of my Hispanic heritage that I am so blessed and proud to be a part of.”
“My work comes out of my faith. I am a firm believer that you can still use traditional methods to create contemporary work. Though the majority of my work is of Saints, you do not have to be of any particular religion to appreciate them as art.”
Born and raised in Santa Fe, NM, Arthur López is proud to be working in the long tradition of New Mexico Santero artists. His high attention to detail has garnered him many awards and is highly esteemed as one of New Mexico’s most popular Santero wood sculptors. He is a 2019 United States Artists Fellow in Traditional Arts and in 2017 he received The Folk Art Society of Americas Award of Distinction for giving
the Santero Tradition a contemporary style and being a leader in design and meaning. In 2015 he was awarded the City of Santa Fe’s Mayor’s Award for excellence in the Arts.
Equally important to López is his need to transcend the bounds of the traditional Santero and use his art as a medium for expressing the full range of his culture and the world around him. Arthur enjoys collaborating with jeweler and wife Bernadette by incorporating his paintings and wood carvings into her silver jewelry creating a truly one-of- a-kind wearable art statement.
López has exhibited in numerous shows throughout the Southwest and is in many prominent museum collections throughout the country. His work has been exhibited internationally at the 2nd International Triennial of Kogei – “The Arts Grounded in Region”, 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art, Kanazawa, Japan, “Song of the West,” Kohi Kulturaum, Karlsruhe, Germany and “The Saints from a Land So Remote” – LA Projects, Landshut, Germany.
