RANDY MONTOYA
Randy Montoya is a silver/goldsmith from Santa Fe, NM whose ancestry in Santa Fe goes back many generations to 1890. At 15 years of age, Randy discovered his affinity for making jewelry when he was a student at Santa Fe High School. Shortly after graduating Randy was offered a job with a local jewelry designer Douglas Magnus thus catapulting his passion for jewelry design. It quickly became evident that he had a true talent and natural ability for silversmithing. With a drive to learn and a passion to succeed, within 6 months he was appointed to be Douglas Magnus’ main apprentice. His steady hands, attention to detail and a keen eye for beauty and symmetry facilitated his success. He continued to work for him for the next 18 years during which he perfected his ability to work with silver, gold and intricate stone inlays. With an eye for design and aesthetic Randy takes on challenging projects and pushes the boundaries of his abilities which leads to beautifully created and intricate pieces. Through his originality and drive this has led to his successes now and in years to come. Following their own passion for silver/goldsmithing, Randy’s son Derick Montoya works alongside him as an apprentice. Randy now has a collection of traditional and contemporary jewelry that was juried and accepted into the Traditional Spanish Market.
