Native American Artist: Nick Nez
Nick Nez a Native American from the Diné (Navajo) Tribe, he is from the Black Streak Wood People and born in the Coyote Pass Clan. Nick has spent most of his life on the Navajo Nation Reservation in the small town of Chinle, in Northeastern Arizona. Nick translated his numerous sketch books filled of beauty into wearable native art. A first generation, self-taught silversmith, Nick won 1st place in the 2009 Navajo Nation Fair art contest and launched his career as a jewelry designer.
“I have found that when I design a piece, all my lines/ curves have to flow in a way that makes the piece unique and one-of-a-kind. I make handmade jewelry with the overlay technique as well as tufa casting. I work with heavy gauge sterling silver and multiple types of stones.”
