Pedro Murias began making cigars in the 1860s in a modest workshop in downtown Havana. As the popularity for cigars grew, so did Murias’ reputation. In 1882, anenormous demand for his products, Murias moved to a new two-storey building, ‘La Meridiana Fabrica de tabacos de Pedro Murias’.The factory, located on Calle Zulueta, nowadays known as Calle Agramonte, was close to the central train station, ideal for the leaves transit from Vuelta Abajo, Cuba’s finest tobacco-growing region. Widely considered one of the most important factories in Havana at that time, La Meridiana occupied over 1500 m2 and produced some of the finest cigars.Working in collaboration with The House of Grauer, based in Geneva, Cuervo y Sobrinos pays homage to Pedro Murias with a new limited edition watch, the Robusto Pedro Murias.
